PHYSIOTHERAPY CAMP FOR PARENTS

Akkara Foundation CCD,Department of Physiotherapy organised a Physiotherapy screening camp for parents those who are suffering with Backpain,Neck Pain,Numbness in hands and feet,Arthritis and other Ortho problems on 30/12/2023 Saturday in the Department. 23 parents were screened and had given adequate treatment to them. After detailed assessment, both exercise therapy and electrotherapy interventions were performed and needed needed home programmings were advised. Follow up treatments will be planned according and held next month.

SCREENING CAMP FOR VOCATIONAL SKILL TRAINING CENTRE FOR SPECIALLY ABLED ADULTS

The Akkara Foundation conducted a screening camp, which was supported  by Inspire, Payyannur, on 16 December 2023, in Edatt, Payyannur.The purpose of the camp is to screen and prepare young people with disabilities.will receive pre-employment training, and an evaluation to determine the strengths and weaknesses of young people with disabilities will take place.The course’s objective is to empower young people with disabilities by providing them with career-focused education, enabling them to compete in the workforce, and guaranteeing them a 100% job placement.The inauguration ceremony started at 10.00am.Ms.Sareena banu (inspire,Pyyannur) welcomed the programme.Presidential address was delivered by Mr.Unnikrishnan.C.M(inspire,Payyannur).The progrmme inaugurated by Mrs.Prarthana (President of kunjimngalam gramapanchayth).Resource person is Mr.Muhammed Yasir (Manager Akkara Foundation). and Mr.Jayamohan.K.S(Managing trust,Hope Pilathara),Mr.Ashokan(wardmember,KunjimangalamGramapnchayt), Mr.Sidharth vannarath(regional chairperson Loins club), and Mr.Mani.k.p(wings,Payyannur)are expressed vote of thanks in these rogramme.

                                       After Mr. Muhammad Yasir, the Akkara Foundation Manager, led an orientation session for parents. to provide an explanation of the course’s contents, duration, and goal. Additionally, to outline the purpose of the screening camp, the selection process, the project’s description, and the anticipated results. The goal of the skill development program is to enable young people with disabilities obtain the skills needed by the industry so they can find gainful employment and support India’s expanding economy. It is developing policies at the local and national levels to influence PwDs’ trajectory in India. Through skill development, it seeks to fulfill the purpose of mainstreaming “Persons with Disability” (PwD) so they can make a living and live dignified lives in both mainstream culture.

                            At 9.30 am, the registration procedure began.At 10.30 am, the Screening camp commenced.Professionals from several departments within the Akkara Foundation led the camp. Mr. Nuhman (Psychology Department), Mr. Jagadeesh (Occupational Therapy Department), and Ms. Adhithya (Special Education Department).Ms. Vinduja, (PRO, Akkara Foundation),  overseed the screening camp.The professionals evaluated the trainees’ abilities, strengths, and weaknesses.In order to observe the trainees’ inner abilities and capabilities, the professionals evaluate each trainee and their parents individually. They also provide additional tasks to the trainees.Coordinator MS. Revathy assessed learners’ basic computer skills.providing them with a name and address typing exercise while evaluating their educational background and typing speed.15 NSS volunteers In Payyannur college have volunteered about  the program.They have taken an active part in the programme.By 2:30 p.m., the screening camp was ended.

AWARENESS SESSION –IMPORTANCE OF PAIN AND PALLIATIVE CARE AND MENTAL HEALTH AT BELLUR GRAMA PANCHAYAT

Social Work Department and Palliative Unit conducted awareness session on the topic of Importance of Pain & Palliative care and Mental Health, at bellur government higher secondary school, on 1st December, 2023. Welcome speech was done by Mr. Subin k, project coordinator and the session was inaugurated by school principal Mr. Silvadasan Y. Palliative nurse in charge Ms. Padmini and Palliative nurse Ms. Aswathy took classes about the importance of palliative care, nature of palliative care, services in palliative care, types of patients and their treatment and the role of volunteers in palliative care. And the Mr. Muhammad Nuhman, psychologist took the class regarding, importance of mental heath, psychiatric patients and their treatment and role of volunteers in community psychiatric treatment. Around fifty plus two students of science batch, commerce batch and humanities were attend the session. Vote of thanks were given by Mr. Abdul Razaq, staff secretory.

GIGGLES - CHILDRENS DAY CELEBRATION

Children’s day, holds immense significance in honoring the rights and well-being of children. Akkara Foundation celebrated this special day on Nov 15th along with the team of Explorer School, Manjeshwar. The Inaugral Ceremony  started at 11 am, Welcome speech was delivered by Jinil Raj (Centre Head, Akkara Foundation). Presidential Address was given by Mohamed Yasir N  (Manager, Akkara Foundation). Theatre Artist Praveen Kadakkam inaugurated the program followed by various activities that entertained children. Felicitation was given by Irfana Riyas (Event Head, Explorer School, Manjeshwar) , Poornima Rai (Montessori Head,  Explorer School, Manjeshwar)& Sulaikha Mam. Vote of Thanks was delivered by Archana VP (Special Educator).

Department of Special Education hosted a series of events to mark Children’s Day. The students of Explorer School and children of Akkara Foundation showed active participation in events such as dance, song, speech, fancy dress etc. The team of Explorer School gifted Montessori Materials to the Montessori team of Akkara Foundation. Almost 130 people participated in this successful celebration – Giggles. Giggles was a resounding success, blending entertainment with a strong education focus. The day not only highlighted the creativity and talent of children but also entertained the parents & staffs as well.

Akkara Foundation completed its 5 years of glorious journey on 1st November 2023 .As part of the celebration Akkara Foundation organized a get together of all the stakeholders and pillars who stood in the initial stage of the forming Akkara Foundation, Trust. The get together function was inaugurated by Mr.Khalid Bellipady the former Muliyar panchayat president, he was the one who inaugurated the opening ceremony of Akkara Foundation in 2018.All the stakeholders and friends were honored during the function by presenting the painting of Master Devadathan (CP child) as a token of love to 10 participants.

AWARENESS CLASS ON MENTAL HEALTH AFTER 60’s

As part of Mental Health Day Awareness month Akkara Foundation organized the

community event at Govt. Old Age Home Paravanadukkam. The event was mainly for the inmates of old age Home; 32inmates participated in the event. The programme started at 10.45am with inaugural function ;welcome speech by Mr. Muhammad Yasir, Manager Akkara Foundation under the presidency of Mrs. Aasiyamma E, Matron Govt. Old age Home,The

superintendent of Govt. Old age Home Mr. B Mohanan inaugurated the function by lightening the lamp and he addressed the importance of mental health among individuals and

emphasizing the importance of mental well-being and acknowledging the need for such

awareness classes in the elderly care facility. The project coordinator of Akkara Foundation Mr. Subin K expressed his gratitude to the speakers and the people who were present.

 

The session named “Mental Health After 60” was lead by Mr. Muhammad Nuhman,

Consultant psychologist of Akkara Foundation created an interactive session with the participants and conveyed his message about the importance of mental health after 60 and the inmates had opportunity to ask questions and share their own experiences.After the session the social work trainees from Central University of Kerala Ms. Liya S Jith and Lizana Farwin took the class on “physical health and it’s importance on mental health”. The sessions finished by 12.30pm.In the afternoon, recreational activities were organized to promote social engagement and mental stimulation among the inmates

 

The inmates enjoyed and actively participated in the activities coordinated by the social work trainees of Sree Sabareesa College, Kottayam and Interns from Psychology department under the guidance of Mr. Jinil Raj J R (Centre Head, Akkara Foundation), Ms. Fathimath Thasniya (HoD, Psychology Department), Mr. Mohammed Faris( HoD, Special Education Department). The activities included games and music to uplift the spirits of the elderly residents. The programme finished by 4.00p

On October 27, 2023, a remarkable Mental Health Day program was organized at Badiadka Police Station. The programme was organized by Akkara Foundation and coordinated by trainee social workers of Sree Sabareesa College Kottayam.The primary objective of the event was to raise awareness about mental health and provide training in the Jacobson Progressive Muscle Relaxation (JPMR) technique. Muhammad Nuhman, Consultant psychologist,Akkara foundation provided an informative introduction to the event, emphasizing the importance of mental health and the role of the JPMR technique in maintaining it. Fathimath Thasniya M A, a consultant psychologist from Akkara Foundation, conducted a comprehensive session on the Jacobson Progressive Muscle Relaxation (JPMR) technique. This technique aims to reduce stress and promote mental well-being of the police officers of Badiadka police station . Sub-Inspector Ansar N and his subordinates shared valuable feedback on the event, highlighting its significance for the police force in managing stress and improving mental health well being. Project coordinator Subin K delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all participants and acknowledging the support of the Badiadka Police Station. The Mental Health Day event at Badiadka Police Station, was a resounding success. It served as an essential platform for raising awareness about mental health and equipping participants with practical tools like the JPMR technique. The event received positive feedback, indicating its importance in promoting mental well-being among the police force.
