Established in 2018, Akkara Foundation Bekal is a Non-profitable Organization based in Kasaragod, Kerala. The trust has been formed primarily to initiate medical and psycho-social assistance in the upliftment of physically and mentally challenged individuals.
The Endosulfan tragedy had left the victims of the mishap in an utter state of despair. According to the national human rights commission, more than 50000 villagers of the Kasaragod district are exposed to Endosulfan pesticides, most of them affected by rare diseases like cerebral palsy, mental retardation, neurodevelopmental disorders, and cancer. Most of these children experience difficulties in school, particularly with concentration, learning, speech, language, social skills, and behavioral difficulties.
We aim to build an Institution with State-of-the-Art facilities so that these differently-abled individuals have a chance to live a meaningful and fruitful life.
Kasaragod, Kerala’s northernmost district, experiences insufficient health and educational facilities. Over 50,000 people are affected by the Endosulfan pesticide, leading to rare illnesses. The Akkara Foundation Trust aims to provide integrated therapy and support for these affected individuals by addressing their psychological, social, and developmental needs and working towards establishing a dignified,
discrimination-free, inclusive community.
To foster an inclusive society where individuals with disabilities are not only valued and respected but are also empowered to be active and integral contributors to their communities.
Akkara Foundation expects to complete a full-fledged therapy centre according to international standards. Specializing in the intensive rehabilitation of children and adults with cerebral palsy, autism, muscular dystrophy, developmental disorders, epilepsy, neurological and locomotor disorders and undiagnosed conditions as part of the project.
Akkara Foundation by 2025 wishes to set up vocational training centres, polytechnic college for the disabled, higher educational institutes for the blind, visually impaired, deaf and dumb.
A Rehabilitation centre for the mentally and physically challenged aged persons where they become contributing members living with dignity and respect is another dream project.
Akkara Foundation wishes to psycho-educate the public about the abilities, limitations, achievements, and needs of the disabled persons through grassroots volunteering in the villages.
AF-CCD offers an integrated therapeutic approach for early detection and intervention of disabilities. The centre employs interdisciplinary and trans disciplinary approaches, incorporating Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech & Language Therapy, Psychology, Individualized Special Education and Music & Art Training.
By nurturing their multiple skills, Akkara Foundation aims to enhance their overall development and quality of life.
